February 2009

Well, well, the month of February, a month that always brings more alcohol poisoning to this city than any other month. I started the month with my boys from OTMAC for their annual Super Bowl extravaganza. And yes as always I didn't win a goddamn thing. I decided after not winning on any of the pools to go take a ride to my owner Jay's house and drown myself in his pool. But of course that didn't work since I'm already dead. Then I realized I had something to live for because my favorite band was returning that Friday, The Chee Weez. And as usual it was another great show, equipped with their Mardi Gras outfits, excessive use of Jagermeister and usual antics of keeping the crowd of 800 people participating throughout. On a more serious note, Mark Hebert who is the Chee Weez drummer and reigning Southport Hall Bar Slip and Slide Champion needs everyone's prayers for his mother who is in a battle with cancer. I hope everyone please can say a prayer for Mark and his entire family in this difficult time. We also welcomed our police friends from the Emerald Society who are getting all revved up for the big Irish Channel Parade on March 14th, be sure to go out and drink it up that day.

Our next two shows of the month had two of Jefferson and Orleans newest upcoming cover bands take the stage at the Southport. 1st the guys with Five Finger Discount played to a crowd of over 200 people showing their powerful sound ranging from the music of the 80's to the music of today. These guys just keeping getting better with every show I see them. 2nd we had the boys and girls from Band Camp come to Southport with their avid followers right at 200 people. And I will once again state this band has nothing but, FINE FOXES following them around and a powerful lively show you have to see, IT'S PARDI GRAS TIME!!!!!!!!! And as a special treat for all of our great customers, on GOOD FRIDAY April 10th we will have Five Finger Discount and Band Camp playing a dual show, mark it on your calender.

Next I had to break out my tuxedo T-Shirt once again for the reception of Brice and Megan. It was a great time, and I almost snuck my way into one of their suitcases for their honeymoon but this damn tail of mine is always getting in the way. A special thanks to the rest of the bands that took to the stage the rest of the month February, Sole Pursuit, Innermost, Touching the Absolute and the Burnside Flashers. It was another great month, but March will put it to shame when you see the shows my boys have booked in here. I'm not saying anything more then to go check out the calender.
