March 2009

Riddle me this. What word is synonamous with the month of March? Well for all of you case crackers out there the word you are looking for is MADNESS. And no I'm not talking about college basketball's March Madness. I'm talking about the March Madness that's been going on in my foxhole. Hell, for a while this month I thought I might have to go and relocate to a new home. Because I thought for sure the damn roof was going to come off of this place. The reason being, my owner Mark, who is sporting a new look this month with a mustache, I personally think he looks a little like anchorman Ron Burgundy, decided to put 4 number 1 seeds into Southport Hall this month. The first being, "The World's Greatest 80's Experience," The MollyRingwalds, for Southport's 5 year anniverary party. The reason Mark " Ron Burgundy" Bagnetto decided on the Ringwalds for our anniversary is that the whole band is a popular fan of Mark's favorite scent called "Sex Panther Cologne." The night ws a great success with the place sold out, and after the show Mark and I retreated back to Lord Phillip "Hot Tub" Wang's house where we relaxed in all 32 of his signature jaccuzzi's all the way till Monday morning. Thank god I'm dead because I think the thought of me having children would be out after all that hot water. Lord Phillip has a strange fondness of collecting hot tub jaccuzzi's and memorabila of NFL linebackers from the 80"s. I don't know what that's all about?

The following week our second number 1 seed, The Bag Of Donuts was in Southport Hall for Friday the 13th. Sporting hockey mask with there face paintings on them and Dupes having a little ladder attached to his shoulders, the Donuts rocked out to a crowd of over 300 people and over 20 rolls of toilet paper dispensed onto the floor.

The following week our 3rd number 1 seed and my favorite band The Chee-Weez returned to Southport with a crowd of over 600 people. The first time in a long time The Chee-Weez came out sporting there blue men face paint. A special thanks goes out to the lady responsible for breaking the women's toilet and cracking it that night. As my good friend Tony the Tiger would say, "You're Great" and I mean that very sarcasticly.

The next weekend we followed up with our 4th number 1 seed, Zoso, the Led Zeppelin Tribute Band. Along with Ratt Poison opening and Pig Pen and the Porkchops playing on the deck. The day and nightime events were all provided by Bayou 95.7, who on top of the great show also had Mr. Mudbugs outside boiling crawfish and "The Radio Gods" Walton and Johnson here signing autographs and interacting with the crowd. This was our 3rd year doing the Bayou 95.7 Bash and Boil, and it's the 1st time it didn't rain on the events outside. The day will definetly go down on record for the most beer consumed in one day at Southport. But as for it not raining all the credit goes to me. The reason being it was my idea to sacrifice a live chicken.

And finally thanks to all of our parties this month. ABC Contactors Association, Tulane Law School, and The Over The Mountain Athletic Club for their annual Crawfish Boils. Kathy Scalane who celebrated her 60th Birthday with us at Southport. The Corps. of Engineers for Tom's retirement party and the Emerald Society for their pre-march party. Congatulations to Mason and Courtney Long who celebrated their Wedding Reception with us. We would also like to thank the rest of the bands who performed this month, Weathered, The Troubleshooters, Under Review and the best 70's tribute band in the world, 3 Dolla Bill. And as Mark "Ron Burgundy" Bagnetto would say, " Stay classy Jefferson and New Orleans."
